ICC Awards of the Decade: Here are all of the categories and nominations
In a first of its kind, the International Cricket Council (ICC), on Tuesday (November 24), released the list of nominations for the ICC Awards of the Decade. The governing body of the game revealed all the categories and the players’ names who would be in contention to win the silverware for their performances over the decade.
Current India captain Virat Kohli, who missed out on the ICC annual awards earlier this year, has dominated the nominations. Widely regarded as the best batsman of this generation, Kohli has earned as many as five nominations. The 32-year old has featured in the topmost category that is the ICC Player of the Decade as well as in the ODI, T20I, Test player of the decade, and also in the Spirit of cricket award category.
Along with Kohli, his India teammate Ravichandran Ashwin features in the ICC Player of the Decade category too. The other three players of the ‘Fab Four’ – Steve Smith, Kane Williamson and Joe Root – are also in contention to win the prestigious award. The two others to be named in the list are former South Africa captain AB de Villiers and former Sri Lanka skipper Kumar Sangakkara.
