I wouldn’t say bio bubble created was porous as compared to UAE: Deep Dasgupta
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) successfully hosted the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in a biosecure bubble. The Indian board planned to implement the same for IPL 2021 too, however, things didn’t go as per the plan as BCCI was forced to postpone the tournament after hosting just 29 matches.
A number of players and support staff tested positive for the virus as to ensure the safety of other members involved, the authorities decided to suspend the league. The postponement of IPL 2021 has resulted in the people drawing comparisons between the bio bubble of UAE and India.
Former cricketer Deep Dasgupta, who was part of the IPL bio-bubble as media personnel, opined on the bio bubble of IPL 2020 and IPL 2021 saying that there wasn’t much difference as he felt safe and secure this time too.
“I wouldn’t say bio bubble created this time was porous compared to last time in UAE. We were well taken care of and I felt secure,” Dasgupta said in interaction as quoted by Sportskeeda.
However, further, in the interaction, the former cricketer admitted that the situation across the country started terrifying him and he felt worried about his family members that were present in Delhi and Kolkata. Dasgupta admitted that he couldn’t stop worrying about his family even when they assured him that they were doing fine.
As the cases started rising in Delhi, I was a bit wary: Deep Dasgupta
India has been hit hard by the second wave of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic with lakhs of people getting infected by the virus daily. “However, as the cases started rising in Delhi, I was a bit wary. Once you saw how people were suffering, it was disturbing.
“Also, I was tense as my parents still live in Noida. So, I was always thinking about them, Once cases started rising in Kolkata, then it was my wife and kids that I was thinking about. But they would tell me that you take care, we are just doing fine,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India is planning to host the remaining IPL 2021 games in the September window. Though BCCI wants to host the league in India only, they are looking at overseas venues too that includes Australia, England, and the UAE.
