I feel KKR might retain Venkatesh Iyer: Virender Sehwag
Kolkata Knight Riders did not have a very impressive run in the first half of the tournament. However, the team bounced back stronger in the UAE leg of the IPL to exude their dominance. One of the players that have been instrumental in the success of KKR is Venkatesh Iyer.
Iyer did not play a single game in the Indian leg of the IPL. But once he got an opportunity to showcase his flair, he made most of it. He has been exceptional for the team in the UAE and has provided the side with flying starts. His powerful strokes and fearless approach to batting have fetched him praises from all around the cricketing fraternity.
In Qualifier 2, wherein KKR locked horns with DC, Iyer hit an impressive half-century to put the team in a commanding position. He has also shown his prowess with the ball in the tournament and has been one of the finds of this season of the IPL. Considering his consistency and form in the league, he has been asked to stay back in the Gulf nation to assist team India for the upcoming T20 World cup.
No doubt Venkatesh Iyer is one of the good finds of this tournament: Virender Sehwag
Opening up about the young talent, the former India cricketer Virender Sehwag heaped praises on Iyer. According to the former cricketer, Iyer is one of the reasons for KKR to reach the finals. He also added that the franchise might retain him ahead of the next edition of the IPL.
“No doubt he is one of the good finds of this tournament. He is the one who has enabled the comeback of KKR in the league. He has given good starts to the team and thanks to him that KKR has reached the finals. Looking at his performances only the Indian team’s management and selectors have asked him to stay back in the UAE in the bubble.
“If it all someone gets injured or if Hardik Pandya has any concerns, then Iyer might get in the team. He is a brilliant find and the way he is batting if KKR wants to retain a few players, he might be one of those contenders. I feel the team might think of retaining Iyer,” Sehwag said in an interaction with Cricbuzz.
