I always look to take wickets rather than contain runs: Avesh Khan

Delhi Capitals pacer Avesh Khan has been hogging the headlines in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has impressed the experts with his pace and lines bowling in the toughest phases of the innings. Avesh bowls in the powerplay and also nails his yorkers at the death which has made him his skipper’s go-to bowler this season.

The pacer continued his good work against Mumbai Indians (MI) as well the other day returning with the figures of 3/21. He dismissed the likes of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Nathan Coulter-Nile. More so, the yorker bowled to Pandya was one of the best as it pegged back the batter’s leg-stump.

Talking to his teammate Axar Patel after the match, Avesh Khan thanked the DC skipper Rishabh Pant for giving him the chance to shine this season. He also went on to add that he always looks to pick wickets whenever he bowls and not to save runs.

“Thanks to Rishabh, he has given me the opportunity to play this season, whenever I bowl, I always look to take wickets rather than looking to contain runs. I was trying to take the wicket of Hardik Pandya, the ball reversed a bit and hence I was able to dismiss him,” Avesh Khan said according to IPL’s official website.

Avesh Khan in race to win purple cap

Avesh Khan has just continued to do his job perfectly after the first leg. The fast bowler has shone despite the likes of Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada being part of the Delhi Capitals’ bowling attack. But his good show has led to Rabada becoming the first change bowler most of the times.

Avesh has so far scalped 21 wickets in this season after featuring in 12 matches at a brilliant strike rate of 15. He is only behind RCB pacer Harshal Patel who is enjoying a dream run in this IPL picking up a four-fer and five-fer as well. Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh are the other bowlers to follow in this list with 17 and 16 wickets to their name respectively.
