Hosting records: Most Tests at a venue
The Mecca of Cricket Lord’s Cricket Ground in London is going to host its 143rd Test match (the highest in the format), to be played between England and South Africa. Under the leadership of Ben Stokes, the home team will want to start on a winning note in a two-match T20I series. There have been plenty of iconic venues in the sport of cricket. And inevitably, the venues have ended up being hosts to more games than other places. On that note, here is a look at three venues have hosted most Test matches.
3. Sydney Cricket Ground, (SCG)
The Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) comes third in the list after hosting 110 matches. Apart from hosting international matches, the ground is also used for playing Rugby league. SCG is also the home ground for the New South Wales (NSW), the Sydney Sixers of the Big Bash League, and the Sydney Swans of the Australian Football League (AFL).
2. Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG)
Australia’s Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) comes second in the list after hosting 112 matches. The ground is one of the biggest sporting venues and has held that feat against its name for more than a hundred years. Just like SCG, MCG also plays hosts to rugby games. The iconic venue is also the home ground of the Melbourne Stars in BBL.
1. Lord’s Cricket Ground, London
As mentioned above, the Mecca of Cricket comes first on the list after hosting as many as 142 matches. The ground has hosted several memorable landmark Test matches as well as the 2019 ODI World Cup final, which was one of the most dramatic matches in the history of the game. The home team went on to win the trophy against New Zealand by boundary count in a jammed-packed stadium. The ground is set to host a match between England and South Africa to be played on August 17.
