Hopefully win against DC will kickstart our campaign: Cameron Green
Five-time champions Mumbai Indians finally had their tournament rolling after a six-wicket win over Delhi Capitals in the 16th match of the IPL 2023 in Delhi. Talking in the same line of events, Cameron Green, who stood unbeaten while his team got over the line, said that he hopes MI’s victory against DC will help them kickstart their campaign. MI, who finished last on the points table in 2022, didn’t have a fine beginning this year either with two back-to-back losses.
The Australian added that he was expecting the game to get wrapped up much earlier rather than becoming a last-ball thriller. MI needed two runs off the last delivery and this is where Tim David and Green turned too quick to get the required task done for the visitors.
“Probably expected it (the game) to finish a lot earlier, but happy we ended up on the right side. I didn’t wanna cramp (while running in the last ball), took the helmet off and I knew there was two there and thankfully it came off,” said Green as quoted by India Today.
There was definitely pressure there, but it was so much fun: Cameron Green
“The conversation (when I went to bat) was to hit 2-3 boundaries and thankfully it came off. There was definitely pressure there, but it was so much fun, to get ten an over, I mean it’s moments like these are what you wait for, hopefully, this (win) will kickstart our campaign,” he added.
While David put 13 off 11 to help Mumbai’s cause, the expensive all-rounder produced 17 off 8 including a six and a four. Talking about the match, DC posted a 173-run target against Rohit Sharma-led side where the visiting skipper led from the front to add 65 off 45 from his end. After Rohit’s solid knock, Ishan Kishan (31 off 26) and Tilak Varma (41 off 29) did the rest of the work to hand MI their maiden victory of the season.
