Highest team totals in List-A cricket history
Vijay Hazare Trophy, India’s premier domestic List A tournament, is proving batters’ tournament this season. Teams are consistently scoring big runs with batters dominating bowlers with big knocks. Till November 23, eleven players have scored 150-plus knocks, including two 200-plus scores while 13 times the teams have crossed the 350-run mark this season.
In 2010, Madhya Pradesh became the first Indian team to surpass 400-plus total in List A when they smashed 412 against Railways. But since then, Indian teams have managed to score 400-plus total six times, three of which have come from the ongoing season. So, let’s take a look at the three highest team totals in List A cricket history.
3. Surrey (496/4 vs Gloucestershire, 2007)
In April 2007, Surrey became the first team in the world to surpass 450-plus total in List A cricket when they scored a record 496/4 against Gloucestershire at the Oval in the Friends Provident Trophy clash. Ali Brown scored 176 runs off 97 balls while Rikki Clarke smashed unbeaten 82 runs off just 28 balls. While chasing a huge total, Gloucestershire collapsed for just 239 runs.
2. England (498/4 vs Netherlands, 2022)
England shattered many records when they scored the biggest total in ODI cricket against Netherlands at Amstelveen in June 2022. They broke their own record of the highest score in ODIs and smashed 498/4 in the first match with Jos Buttler, Dawid Malan, and Phil Salt scoring centuries. England also broke Surrey’s 496-run record in List A cricket but missed out on becoming the first team to reach a 500-run milestone by just two runs in one-day cricket tournaments.
1. Tamil Nadu (506/2 vs Arunachal Pradesh, 2022)
Tamil Nadu, India’s most successful team in List A tournaments, created history when they scored 506/2 against Arunachal Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022, becoming the first team to surpass the 500-run mark in List A cricket. The in-form opener Narayan Jagadeesan smashed 277 runs off just 141 balls, the highest individual List A innings in world, to help Tamil Nadu score 506/2 at Bengaluru. Then M Siddarth took five wickets for 12 to bowl out Arunachal Pradesh on just 71 runs to register a big 435-run win, the biggest-ever win in List A cricket.
