The introduction of T20 cricket has injected more thrill and entertainment into the game of cricket recently. It has disrupted the supremacy of the traditional teams in the game as the format tends to be quite unpredictable. And with six different winners in the seven T20 World Cup events so far, there is hard to pick a superior team in this format. On that note, here are teams with the highest win percentage in the format.
3. Pakistan – 63.78%
The 2009 T20 World Cup winners have been one of the most impressive sides in the format and continue to excel under the guidance of their mercurial leader Babar Azam. The Men in Green went close to another title in 2021’s edition, but their progress was halted at the semi-final stage by the Australians, who eventually lifted the cup, in dramatic style. With 117 wins in 190 matches, Pakistan are third on this list with a win percentage of 63.78.
2. India – 67.48%
India are in the second position in this list ahead of their arch-rivals with a win percentage of 67.48 in the popular format. Their triumph in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 was followed by the inception of the Indian Premier League, which has contributed significantly to India’s T20I success. Although the Men in Blue have not been able to clinch a second T20 WC to date, they are one of the strongest contenders for this year’s event and are flourishing under the new leadership of Rohit Sharma. The sub-continent side recently equalled the record of most consecutive wins in T20Is after winning 13 matches on the bounce, which takes their tally to 107 wins in 168 matches.
1. Afghanistan – 68.61 %
Afghanistan’s rise in the T20 format has been a breath of fresh air and has raised quite a few eyebrows. The Asian outfit benefited greatly from Asghar Afghan’s captaincy rein, which saw them win an astonishing 42 out of 52 matches. Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan have been two of the most significant contributors to their success in the format as they bring a wealth of experience of playing in multiple T20 leagues across the globe. Afghanistan have recorded 64 wins in 94 matches to date with a win percentage of 68.61, which puts them at the top of this list.
