Highest score by an Asian in England ODD cricket
Not many times do cricketers from Asia score big hundreds in the domestic one-day competition in England. It’s a rare sight of Asian players scoring big in the limited-overs matches in country cricket held in the United Kingdom. However, certain cricketers have managed to exceed there. On that note, here Let’s take a look at the highest score by an Asian in the domestic one-day cricket competition in the UK:
3.Zaheer Abbas (158)
Former Pakistani cricketer Zaheer Abbas holds the record for the third-highest individual score by an Asian in domestic one-day cricket in England. The right-handed batter, playing for Gloucestershire, struck 158 in the run-chase of 303 against Leicestershire at the Grace Road in Leicester. Leicestershire batted first and posted 302/5 in their allotted 60 overs. Abbas, who came in to bat at no. four, smashed a match-winning big century as his side reached 306/6 in 59.3 overs.
2.Kumar Sangakkara (166)
Former Sri Lankan batter Kumar Sangakkara, while playing for Surrey in the second semi-final against Nottinghamshire in the Royal London one-day cup at The Oval in 2015, hammered 166 for his team. Surrey batted first and Sangakkara came in to bat at no. three. With the help of 13 fours and one maximum, he smoked over 160 runs in 174 deliveries as Surrey reached 300/5 in 50 overs, subsequently winning the match by four runs.
1.Cheteshwar Pujara (174)
Cheteshwar Pujara is the latest entrant on this list as the right-handed batter, who was leading his Sussex side recently, stunned everyone with his brilliant knock of 174 against Surrey in the ongoing Royal London one-day cup in Hove. Pujara’s team batted first and slammed 378/6 in 50 overs. He faced 131 deliveries and smashed 20 fours and five sixes at a strike rate of 132.82. Surrey got bundled out for just 162, losing the match by a massive margin of 216 runs.
