Highest partnerships in T20 World Cup history
The T20 World Cup 2022 has culminated and the tournament, like each year, saw plenty of records being made and broken. One of the important aspects in a big tournament like the T20 World Cup is building partnerships as it can have a great impact in the result at the end of the day. On that note, let us look at the top three highest partnerships in T20 World Cup history:
Mahela Jayawardene-Kumar Sangakkara – 2010
Two of the best cricketers to have played the game from Sri Lanka, Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara struck together a massive partnership against West Indies in the 2010 T20 World Cup. At 7 for 1, the pair joined hands together for a partnership of 166 for the second wicket and Jayawardene in particular played a splendid knock of unbeaten 98. Sangakkara chipped in with 68 as Sri Lanka got to a massive total of 195 for 3. The Island nation ended up winning the game comfortably by 57 runs.
Quinton de Kock – Rilee Rossouw – 2022
Quinton de Kock and Rilee Rossouw recently made merry against the Bangladesh bowlers in T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 stages. The duo added 168 for the second wicket in no time and helped the Proteas to post a big total on the board. While de Kock perished after scoring 68, Rossouw went on to capitalise on the start and end up with a fantastic century.
Jos Buttler – Alex Hales – 2022
Jos Buttler and Alex Hales put on a show with the bat in the all-important semi-final against India and the pair added 170 for the first wicket in just 16 overs. The prolific batters remained unbeaten in the run chase and both went past their half-centuries comfortably. Hales remained unbeaten on 86 while Buttler’s unbeaten 80 was enough for England to progress into the finals and name the record for the highest-ever partnership in T20 World Cups.
