Over the years, the cricketing world has seen several debutants who have taken Test cricket by storm with their stupendous performances. These youngsters just walk in being completely unfazed by the challenges of the format and end up scoring a plethora of runs. Test Cricket is considered the most challenging format and seeing batters averaging in the 60s is a rare sight in this longest format of the game.
However, there have been few who have left fans and experts awestruck with their remarkable consistency taking their average to untouchable heights. On that note, let us take a look at the top three batters with the highest average in Test cricket with a minimum of 800 runs.
3. Sidney Barnes (63.05)
Having made his debut against England at the Oval in August 1938, Barnes went on to play 13 Tests for Australia. He scored 1072 runs at an average of 63.05 with three hundred and five fifties to his name.
2. Harry Brook (89.88)
Brook has made a name for himself with his aggressive batting in his short Test career so far. After making his debut at the Oval against South Africa, he went on to score three hundreds in Pakistan. And his recent 186 against New Zealand in the second Test off just 176 balls has put him amongst the greats of the game. The 24-year-old is now averaging 89 with playing in his sixth Test, making him the batter with the second-highest average in Test cricket (min 800 runs). Brook also has an incredible strike rate of 98.77 to go with his staggering average.
1. Don Bradman (99.94)
Considered as the greatest batter ever to play the game, Bradman has numbers that are yet to be matched by any player. He represented Australia in 52 Tests, scoring 6996 runs at a mind-boggling average of 99.94. He scored 29 hundreds in his illustrious career, out of which 12 were double hundreds and two were triple hundreds. He also has 13 fifties to his name.
