Has Mitchell Marsh sealed his spot in Australia’s T20 WC squad?
Australian men were up against West Indies in the five-match T20I series where they just escaped the whitewash by winning one game of the series. Though Aaron Finch and his men had a disastrous outing against the Caribbean, there was one man who didn’t leave the chance to impress and he was Mitchell March. The Australian all-rounder contributed from the bat immensely and wrapped up the T20I show by being the leading run-scorer.
219 runs including three half-centuries came as a remarkable feat when Kangaroos were suffering on the away soil. While playing the first T20I against West Indies, he smashed his maiden fifty by scoring 51 off 31 balls, flaunting class at number three. He continued his rich vein of form in the subsequent match and scored another stunning fifty by adding 54 off 42 from his end before being dismissed by Hayden Walsh Jr again.

The all-rounder’s prime game unfolded in the fourth T20 against Nicholas Pooran and his men and it was the only T20I victory that Australians had on their side. He brought his career-best figures of T20I on the table in both the departments of the game simultaneously. He smashed 75 off 44 balls and took three wickets by conceding 24 runs in the game. It was a classy performance from him at no three all the way and didn’t let his team down.
As the T20 World Cup is approaching in few months, the talk around the respective squads is doing rounds. Now, seeing Marsh’s red-hot form in the recent while, he should be given a longer rope as he did well at no. 3 and can be used as a handy bowler too. However, Australia is yet to play more T20I assignments before the showpiece event and the picture would get clearer eventually.
It is a known fact that Australia were up against West Indies with their depleted side as their many big names pulled out of the tour due to several personal reasons. Marsh was also there on their tour to New Zealand earlier this year and did fine, though lower down the order. As the big guns will return in the squad in future, there can certainly be some shuffling in the squad but seems like Marsh has sealed a spot in T20 World Cup with openers being Aaron Finch and David Warner while he taking care of the third spot.
