Harsha Bhogle’s six-year-old tweet on Shreyas Iyer goes viral
Shreyas Iyer has had an outing to remember in India’s opening Test against New Zealand at Green Park in Kanpur. After India won the toss and elected to bat first, Iyer gave an account of his stupendous self with the bat in hand. He came to bat after the hosts lost two quick wickets of Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara, who both got out after getting their eyes in.
Iyer went on to score 105 runs off 171 balls with the help of 13 fours and two sixes. His knock made sure that India put up a competitive score of 345 on the board in 111.1 overs. He was also involved in a 121-run stand for the fifth wicket along with Ravindra Jadeja.
In the meantime, a six-year-old tweet on Iyer made by Harsha Bhogle has surfaced. In the tweet, Bhogle said that the right-hander had an X-factor and was someone to watch out for in the future.

I will now follow Shreyas Iyer's career closely. There is something about him and he is still so young.

It was always my dream to play Test cricket, says Shreyas Iyer
Having played T20I and ODI cricket for quite some time, Iyer got his chance to play the longer format and he made the opportunity count. He also lauded Suryakumar Yadav for giving him enough confidence during the early stages of his playing career. Moreover, he recalled an incident when he played a handy knock in domestic cricket in Kanpur itself.
“It was always my dream to play Test cricket but things went the other way and I played T20Is, ODIs, and now Test cricket. But, it’s never too late and feel very happy to score century on Test debut. I couldn’t have asked for anything better,” Iyer said
“Kanpur stadium has been really lucky for me. My debut Ranji season was under Suryakumar’s captainship and I would like to thank him for backing me after my first four innings because I thought I would be out of the team,” he stated
“And then we were kind of in a same situation when we came back to Kanpur. We were 20 or 30 for five and then I made a 150-run partnership with the tail enders and got to a good position for the team,” Iyer added.
