Harbhajan Singh names the spinner who can shine in T20 WC
One of India’s greatest spinners Harbhajan Singh if of the thought that if India needs to do well in T20 World Cup 2021, the spinners will have to ply their trade well for the team. Though the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, and Rahul Chahar are top contenders in bagging the spot in the showpiece event, Singh feels that mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy is a must in the squad.
Chakravarthy impressed big time in the last edition of IPL and earned his maiden call-up for the tour of Australia. However, injury concerns kept him at bay and he could not claim his chance during the home England series also due to fitness issues. However, he recently marked his maiden outing in the series against Sri Lanka and did with the ball and therefore, the veteran spinner feels that he deserves the chance in the T20 WC squad.
“I feel that is T20 World Cup material because he has all types of qualities. He can take wickets, stop runs, bowl in the Powerplay, and can even bowl in the death overs. His only shortcoming is that he remains way too nervous. I spent some time with him in KKR. He himself doesn’t know what he is capable of,” Harbhajan Singh told Sports Tak.
No one was able to hit him in the nets says Harbhajan Singh
Singh went on to add that when he saw Chakravarthy for the first time bowling to MS Dhoni, he knew that he was going to play for India one day. As per Singh, while Dhoni was hitting all the bowlers during the practice session of last year’s IPL, it was the mystery spinner who kept troubling the legendary batter. The former spinner believes the more chances Chakravarthy gets, the better he is going to be in the future.
“The first time I had seen him was during a net session with Chennai Super Kings. MS Dhoni was hitting the rest of the fast bowlers and spinners for sixes but when Chakravarthy was bowling, he had Dhoni in all sorts of trouble and dismissed him several times. And no one was able to hit him in the nets. That’s when I had predicted that this guy is going to play for India. He has a bit of nervous energy but the more he plays, the better he is going to get,” Singh concluded.
