GT vs DC Review – Table toppers topple against determinant Delhi
The 44th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a low-scoring encounter between the David Warner-led Delhi Capitals and the defending champions Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, May 2. Delhi Capitals successfully defended a target of 131 runs and won the game by five runs.
Delhi won the toss and elected to bat first, Phil Salt and skipper David Warner aimed to notch up a big total on the board. However, both were dismissed quite early in the innings as Mohammed Shami wreaked havoc. Salt was dismissed on a golden duck, and Warner was run out scoring just two runs.
As the side lost five wickets in the powerplay, Delhi looked to be in trouble. However, Aman Hakim Khan played a fabulous knock down the order. The 26-year-old scored 51 runs in 44 deliveries. Furthermore, Axar Patel and Ripal Patel scored 27 and 23 runs, respectively, and propelled Delhi to a total of 130 runs.
As Gujarat came in to chase the low total, they lost both of their openers quite early into the game as well. However, skipper Hardik Pandya showed resilience and amassed 59* runs in 53 balls. However, despite Tewatia’s late push, Gujarat only managed to score 125 runs and lost the game.
