Governing Council meeting set to finalise IPL 2020 schedule
The IPL Governing Council is set to meet on August 1 to discuss and finalise the schedule for the 2020 IPL edition. IPL GC Chairman Brijesh Patel recently confirmed that the tournament will be played between September 19 and November 8 in the UAE.
The Governing Council is also likely to discuss other key arrangements for the tournament including venues, logistics, security, training facilities and the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This year’s IPL will comprise of a full quota of 60 matches between eight franchises over 50 days.
BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, secretary Jay Shah and treasurer Arun Dhumal will also be present at this meeting over the weekend. Both Ganguly and Shah are nearing the end of their six-year tenure as office bearers and are supposed to undergo a 3-year cooling-off period. However, the BCCI has filed a plea with the Supreme Court to tweak the cooling-off period. The hearing for the same has been scheduled for August 17.
Earlier this week, the Emirates Cricket Board confirmed that it had received the official ‘Letter of Intent’ from the BCCI to host IPL 2020 in the UAE. However, a formal announcement will happen only after the Indian government gives a go-ahead to move the tournament outside India.
