In the ongoing Match 18 against Mumbai Indians, the Aussie batter Glenn Maxwell has featured for the first time this season. After the announcement of his return, the former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta spoke about his performance in the last season, personality, and current form.
Dasgupta revealed the interaction with Maxwell in the previous season, where the RCB batter mentioned that his role was well-defined and he liked the pressure of building the innings and posting a strong total on the board with his contributions. The former Indian cricketer believes that Maxwell’s outgoing and extrovert kind of personality is similar to the aura of the RCB franchise.
“It’s good to have Maxwell back for RCB, as he missed the first few games. He’s been the revelation last season. This franchise suits him more and his role is very well-defined in the team. In the last season, he batted at number four and has liked the responsibilities. Maxwell finished with 513 runs at an average of 42.75 in the 2021 season and was the fifth-highest run-scorer as well. The former Indian cricketer expects Maxwell to replicate his BBL 2021/22 performances in the IPL 2022 edition as well.
Dinesh Karthik has found his niche in the T20 format: Deep Dasgupta
The former cricketer also spoke about the brilliance of RCB wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik this season and recalls his chat with him last year. In the chat between the two, Karthik had asked Dasgupta if he could still make a comeback to the Indian team. After this revelation, Dasgupta lauded the clarity of the role given to Karthik by the RCB team management this season.
“The last game against RR is a perfect example of him doing his job in a perfect manner. The wickets fell early on, but Karthik was sent out to the bat after a certain amount of time, this depicts clarity of thought on his role. He has found his niche in the T20 format, and is looking like the best finisher in the tournament,” he added.
