Glenn Maxwell on how extravagant T20 league changed his life

Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell has been one of the most innovative and dynamic batters in the modern-day game and has been a pillar of the Australian team for the last decade. Apart from his ability to play the trademark switch hit at will and make vital contributions in the middle-order, Maxwell is also known to chip in with some wickets with his right arm off-break combined with his acrobatic fielding.

The Aussie power-hitter has been playing the IPL since 2012 but, achieved stardom after being roped in by the Mumbai Indians squad that had won their maiden title in 2013. He was the most expensive player of the season as MI had bought him for a sum of 1 million US$. Currently, the two-time World Cup winner has been retained by the Royal Challengers Bangalore and he has revealed what playing in the marquee tournament means for him.

The IPL has changed my life in an amazing way, says Glenn Maxwell

The IPL has changed my life in an amazing way that I have been able to meet some of my heroes, some of the people I have admired playing for and against. IPL has changed me as a cricketer, changed me as a person. I probably wasn’t as culturally aware as a young player about India. The people that I have met, the things that I have learned from the IPL have helped me as a cricketer and more importantly as a person”, said Maxwell while speaking to Danish Sait on the RCB Podcast.

I owe the IPL a hell of a lot because it has also helped me as an international cricketer. I have been able to adapt to different situations which I never thought I would do ever”, he added.

After being released by Punjab Kings due to underwhelming returns in the 2020 season, RCB showed faith in the Australian all-rounder during the IPL 2021 mini-auction and brought him on board for INR 14.25 crores. The T20 World Cup winner obliged by making his bat do the talking as he went on to finish as the three-time finalists’ highest run-scorer of the season with 513 runs.
