Former India pacer slams KL Rahul after yet another dismal outing
India’s Test opener KL Rahul has been going through a slump in his form for quite some time now. The 30-year-old has struggled to score runs and has been out of form, which has led to many experts opining that he should be dropped from the squad. Rahul’s poor form also gave rise to the opinion that Shubman Gill should be team India’s number one choice for the opening slot.
Rahul was selected to open India’s innings alongside Rohit Sharma for the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Rahul was only able to score 20 runs in the first match of the series, and was dismissed early in the first innings of the second Test as well. The 30-year-old scored a mere 17 runs before he was sent back to the pavilion by Nathan Lyon.
Former Indian pacer Venkatesh Prasad took to Twitter to express his dissatisfaction with KL Rahul. “Still considered by management as the second-best Test opener in a country with so much batting talent,” Prasad tweeted while sharing KL Rahul’s recent stats.
His inclusion shakes belief in Justice: Venkatesh Prasad
Venkatesh Prasad put out a series of tweets where he talked about KL Rahul’s form at length. He also opined that Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan were not backed by the board as much as Rahul. Prasad went on to state that he does not think that Rahul is one of the top ten openers for India and that the backing he receives from the board isn’t justified.
“His inclusion shakes belief in Justice. SS Das had great potential, and so did S Ramesh, both avgd 38+ but did not get beyond 23 test matches. Rahul’s consistent inclusion gives an impression of a lack of batting talent in India which isn’t true. Last 5 years his avg is below 27 in 47 innings,” Prasad tweeted.
“As per me, he is currently not amongst the current 10 best openers in India but is being given endless chances. Guys like Kuldeep Yadav put in man of the match performances and next game are dropped with theories like Horses for courses. In any course, KL is not a horse. Sad,” he added.
