The worst that can happen to a batsman is getting run out on 99. In this article, we will be discussing the two Indian batsmen to be run out on 99 in Test.

ML Jaisimha vs Pakistan, 1960

This was the second Test match of Pakistan’s tour of India. The visiting team scored 335 runs in the first innings with the help of fine knocks from Javed Burki and Nasim-ul-Ghani. Polly Umrigar was the most successful Indian bowler with 4 wickets to his name. In response to Pakistan’s total, Umrigar shined with the bat as well and hit a century scoring 115 runs.

Indian opener ML Jaisimha was run-out for 99 runs, becoming the first such Indian player. India scored 404 runs in their first innings and took a lead of 69 runs. With Pakistan’s score of 140/3 in the second innings, the match ended in a draw.

MS Dhoni vs England, 2012

In this Test match played at Nagpur, England scored 330 runs in the first innings after captain Alastair Cook chose to bat first. For them, Kevin Pietersen and Joe Root scored 73-runs each. Piyush Chawla took 4 wickets for 69 runs for India. In response, Virat Kohli slammed a wonderful century for the home team. He scored 103 runs off 295 balls including 11 fours.

However, it was Indian captain MS Dhoni who was unlucky to miss out on a century. He got run out for 99 runs after facing 246 balls. With this, he also became the first Test captain to be run out on 99. Dhoni hit 8 fours and 1 six in his knock. India declared their innings at the score of 326/9.

England batted well again in the second innings with Jonathan Trott and Ian Bell hitting hundreds. England declared their innings for 352/4, and with that, the match ended up in a draw.
