Flashback: The only player to score a century and take a hat-trick in IPL

Rohit Sharma might not have been known for his bowling but there was a time when he used to turn his arm over consistently for his franchise. It is very tough for any all-rounder to hit a century as well as take a hattrick in IPL. However, the current Indian captain created a rare record of scoring a century as well as picking up a hattrick in IPL, which no other player has been able to achieve so far.

In 2012, playing for the Mumbai Indians, Rohit hit a massive century in the first innings in Kolkata and remained unbeaten on 109 off just 60 deliveries with five sixes and 12 fours. Rohit’s century propelled Mumbai to a big score of 182 and KKR felt short by 27 runs in the end to hand Mumbai a victory. It remains to be the only century for Rohit in IPL history.

Meanwhile, Rohit’s hattrick came in 2009 for the Deccan Chargers against his current franchise Mumbai Indians. The 34-year-old bowled the 15th over and picked up Abhishek Nayar and Harbhajan Singh off the last deliveries. He was on a hattrick at the start of 17th over and he managed to dismiss JP Duminy to complete it.

It was a big moment for Rohit as he has been mostly used as a part-timer but he ended up winning the game for his side through his two overs. He finished with extraordinary figures of 4/6 apart from his 38 with the bat in the same innings as the Deccan Chargers won the game by 19 runs. It is a big surprise that Rohit has stopped bowling consistently in the last decade or so and instead being player as a pure batter.
