Flashback: The only batsman to hit a century on both his Test and ODI debuts
Every cricketer dreams of making a memorable performance in his debut match. There have been many batsmen, who have hit a century in their first international appearance. But do you know which batsman has registered his name in history by scoring a century in the ODI and Test cricket debut? This feat has been achieved by Pakistan player Abid Ali. However, before him in women’s cricket, it has been done by former England player Enid Bakewell, who started her Test and ODI career with a century. But Abid Ali is the first player to achieve the milestone in men’s cricket.
Maiden century against Australia in ODI debut
Abid Ali got an opportunity to debut in the ODI series played in the UAE between Pakistan and Australia in the month of March 2019. In this match, the Australian team, batting first, scored 277 runs in 50 overs. After which Abid Ali got the opportunity to start the innings and he scored 112 runs in 119 balls. Although the Pakistan team suffered a close defeat by 6 runs, everyone looked quite impressed with Abid’s performance in the first match.
Test debut against Sri Lanka
After the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Pakistan in 2009, the first Test series was played there in 2019, which was a two-match series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. In the first match, the Sri Lankan captain decided to bat first after winning the toss, after which the team’s first innings was restricted to 308 runs in the first innings. In response to this, Abid Ali, who came to start the innings for Pakistan, made history by scoring 109 runs in 201 balls in his debut match. However, due to rain, the match ended in a draw.
Career so far
