Flashback: Rohit Sharma’s staggering 209 against Australia in Bengaluru
Rohit Sharma and double centuries has been a never-ending love story and he has three to his name already. The current Indian skipper got to his first-ever ODI double century in 2013 against Australia during a run feast at the Chinnasamy Stadium in Bengaluru. It was the final game of the series at 2-2 and it couldn’t have got a better ending.
Australia elected to bowl first after winning the toss and the openers Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan were quite aggressive right from the word go. Dhawan perished after a 57-ball 60 while Virat Kohli surprisingly bagged a duck. Rohit kept finding the boundaries from the other end with Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh providing support for a brief period.
At 207 for 4 in the 34th over, Rohit and MS Dhoni joined hands together and their partnership completely took away any momentum from Australia. Rohit reached a fantastic century and once he got to the three-figure mark, the right-hander started to accelerate. In fact, he brought up his 150 in a quick span of time and clearly was hungry for a big milestone.
The last fifty runs came at an even better rate as Dhoni and Rohit put on a show among the fans in Bengaluru. Rohit was focused on the 200-run mark and he got to the milestone with a flurry of boundaries. His phenomenal knock came to an end in the final over of the innings as he struck 12 fours and 16 sixes in his superlative knock of 209 off 158 deliveries.
The Bengaluru crowd was stunned by Rohit’s as he took India to a massive total of 383 for 6 in their 50 overs. Australia was bundled out for 326 in the 46th over and handed a 57-run victory for the men in blue as James Faulker’s breath-taking century went in vain.
