Flashback: IND vs NZ – Amit Mishra flattens Kiwis in the series decider
India and New Zealand have always produced competitive series in ODI cricket. Both sides are set to resume their rivalry from 18th January as they commence a 3-match ODI series. Here is a look back on a few of the most memorable individual performances from past India vs New Zealand ODI encounters:-
The 5-match ODI series in 2016 was levelled at 2-2. The teams then headed to Vizag for the series decider. Indian captain MS Dhoni won the toss and decided to bat first.
Rohit leads the way
Opening along with Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit was India’s pacemaker. His knock of 70 came off just 65 balls and he left India at 119/2 in 22 overs. Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni guided the innings further. Kohli’s patient 65 steadied the ship. Kedar Jadhav and Axar Patel provided the late flourish and carried India past 250. The hosts eventually piled up 269/6 in their allotted 50 overs. Trent Boult was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/52.
An incredible collapse
New Zealand were off to an ominous start in the chase. Martin Guptill fell for a duck as Umesh Yadav breached his defence. Tom Latham was the next casualty as NZ found themselves at 28/2. They reached a score of 63 without any further harm. But now began the tumbling.
Axar Patel extracted a catch out of Kane Williamson. Amit Mishra then ran through the rest of them. He had Ross Taylor caught behind first. Mishra then bamboozled James Neesham with a leg-spinner and BJ Watling with a googly. He went on to snare two more victims. New Zealand collapsed from 63/2 to 79 all out. Amit Mishra finished with the figures of 5/18 in 6 overs – the best bowling figures by an Indian against NZ in ODIs.
