Flashback: Fastest centuries in T20I cricket
Scoring a century in any particular format is a dream come true moment for a cricketer. Reaching the three-figure mark is a special achievement by a player but to do so in fewer deliveries is even more exceptional. In the T20 international format, one of the most fast-paced formats, few cricketers have touched the special feat in an emphatic way as the record is jointly held by three cricketers.
Let’s take a look at the players with the fastest century in the history of T20I cricket:
1.David Miller (35)
South Africa’s destructive middle-order batter David Miller is joint-top with two others for smashing the fastest century in the T20I format. Miller grabbed the feat in just 35 deliveries against Bangladesh in Potchefstroom in the year 2017. During the second and the final match of the series, hosts South Africa batted first and Miller went berserk. Batting at no. five, the left-handed batter struck an unbeaten 101 off just 36 with seven fours and nine maximums at a strike rate of 280.55. The Proteas reached a total of 224/4 as they defeated the Bangla Tigers by 83 runs with David winning the Player of the Match award.
2.Rohit Sharma (35)
India’s Rohit Sharma followed suit as he also hammered a 35-ball hundred against Sri Lanka in Indore in December. During the second of the three-match series, Rohit, who was also the skipper of the side, opened the innings with KL Rahul and smacked a whirlwind 118 off just 43 deliveries. The right-handed batter plundered 12 fours and ten maximums at a strike rate of 274.41 as India reached a mammoth 260/5, their highest T20I total to date. The Men in Blue sealed a comfortable 88-run victory as Rohit won the Player of the Match award.
3.Sudesh Wickramasekara (35)
Czech Republic batter Sudesh Wickramasekara is the third-joint name on this elite list. The right-handed batter also achieved the landmark in just 35 balls against Turkey at IIfov County in August 2019. Batting at no. five, Wickramasekara hit an unbeaten 104 off just 36 deliveries with the help of eight fours and ten maximums and at a strike rate of 288.88. The Czech Republic reached a total of 278/4, the joint-highest by a team in T20I cricket history. In reply, Turkey suffered a shambolic defeat as they got bundled out for a mere 21, handing Czech a thumping victory by 257 runs.
