Five major records that can be broken in IPL 2021

Tahir

The 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to begin on 9th April 2021. In the inaugural match, Mumbai Indians (MI) will face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. There have been many incredible records that have been created in the IPL over the years. However, records are meant to be broken, and this is expected in IPL 2021 as well. Let’s look at five big records that can be broken in this season of the IPL.

5. Can Mumbai Indians (MI) make it 3 in 3?

The Mumbai Indians (MI) side is currently the most dominant team in the IPL. They won the title in the 2019 and 2020 editions of the league. Given their incredible form, they are top contenders to become champions in this year’s IPL as well. If the MI side is successful in doing so, they will become the first-ever team to win three consecutive IPL titles. Earlier, CSK won the IPL in 2010 and 2011 but lost to KKR in the summit clash of the 2012 edition, missing their third consecutive triumph.

4. Fastest fifty in IPL

The record for the fastest fifty in IPL is held by KL Rahul who struck a 14-ball half-century against Delhi in IPL 2018. There are many explosive batsmen who have the capability to complete an IPL fifty in less than 14 balls. The likes of Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant and Nicholas Pooran had already shown their acumen in previous seasons and can break this record on their day.

3.Most fours in an IPL innings

The record for hitting the most fours in an IPL inning is jointly held by Paul Valthaty and AB de Villiers. Both these players have smashed 19 fours in an IPL inning before. Prithvi Shaw, who displayed terrific form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy is the top contender to break this record. He is one of those explosive players who deal in fours during his innings. Shaw recently broke the record for most fours hit by an Indian in List-A cricket during his double century knock in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

2.Warner’s eyes on 50th IPL Fifty

David Warner has so far scored 5254 runs in 142 IPL matches. He has hit 48 fifties and 4 centuries in the tournament. Warner needs to smash two more half-centuries to become the first player in IPL history to complete 50 fifties. He is way ahead of the second player on the list, Shikhar Dhawan who has 41 IPL fifties to his name.

1. Imran Tahir can become the fastest bowler to take 100 IPL wickets

Imran Tahir has picked up 80 wickets in the 58 IPL matches he has played. He needs to take 20 wickets in the next 11 games to become the fastest bowler to complete 100 IPL wickets. Currently, this record is held by Lasith Malinga who took his 100th IPL wicket in his 70th IPL match.
