Five highest ODI totals in women’s cricket
Women’s ODI cricket hasn’t been as high-scoring as that of the Men’s ODI cricket but the Women’s game does have the potential to produce bigger things. Even the frequency of 300+ totals is quite less in Women’s ODIs even while players are used to the shorter format. However, the highest ODI total across both the genders has been held by Women’s cricket only in the last two and half decades.
Here are the top five totals in the Women’s ODI cricket:
5. Australia Women – 412/3 in 1997:
India, in 2007, smashed a 400+ total over Bermuda in the World Cup but the first-ever 400+ total in World Cup history came ten years before itself. Australia Women piled up 412/3 in the 1997 edition of the Women’s CWC hosted by India. They recorded this total against Denmark Women, who in reply, were bowled out for 49 runs. The Australian skipper Belinda Clarke smashed an unbeaten 229 in this game to become ODI cricket’s first-ever double centurion.
4. New Zealand Women – 418/10 in 2018:
Not often a team gets bowled out in an innings they post 400+ runs. But the New Zealand Women suffered such fate during their tour of Ireland in 2018. Opener Sophie Devine smashed a 61-ball 108 while four other players recorded scores between 43 and 50. They eventually reached 418 before being bowled out on the penultimate delivery of the innings.
3. New Zealand Women – 440/3 in 2018:
Amelia Kerr, the young leg-spinner, got a chance to show her potential with the bat when she got promoted as an opener in the final ODI of the 3-match series against Ireland Women in 2018. Kerr stunned one and all with an unbeaten 232 from 145 deliveries to set the record for highest individual score in Women’s ODI cricket. Her knock helped the White Ferns reach 440/3 in the 50 overs. Kerr also became the youngest to score a double hundred at the international stage.
2. New Zealand Women – 455/5 in 1997:
The first-ever 400+ ODI total in Men’s cricket came in 2006 but Women’s cricket got to witness it in 1997 itself. During Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand at the start of 1997, the home team smashed 455/5 in the restricted 50 overs. Skipper Maia Lewis scored 105 from only 72 balls while another three players scored 70+ runs at a strike rate over 120. Pakistan, in reply, were bowled out for only 47 runs.
1. New Zealand Women – 491/4 in 2018:
Less than two weeks before England broke their own record for the highest total in Men’s ODI cricket, the New Zealand Women rewrote the highest-ever ODI total record. In the first game of the 3-match ODI series against Ireland Women in 2018, the White Ferns smashed 491/4. Skipper Sophie Devine smashed 151 from only 94 deliveries while Maddy Green struck a 77-ball 122. Cara Murray conceded 119 runs in her 10 overs while picking up two wickets.
