5. Brian Lara – 277 vs Australia, 1993

Brian Lara, one of the greatest players of the game converted his debut hundred into a big score. He hit 277 runs in the match against Australia in Sydney Test, 1993. Lara hit 38 fours in his 372-ball long innings. West Indies posted a total of 606 runs in the first innings after Australia had scored 503 runs in the first innings. The match ended in a draw with Brian Lara bagging the player of the match award.

4. Tip Foster – 287 vs Australia, 1903

Tip Foster of England holds the record for registering the highest score in the debut Test. He scored 287 runs in his very first Test match. England posted 577 runs in their first innings in response to Australia’s total of 285 runs. England won this match by 5 wickets eventually as they successfully chased down a target of 194 runs in the fourth innings.

3. Karun Nair – 303* vs England, 2016

India’s Karun Nair hit a magnificent triple hundred in just the third match of his Test career. He scored 303 runs off 381 balls in the Chennai Test, 2016. Karun smashed 32 fours and 4 sixes in his unbeaten knock. India posted a huge total of 759/7 in their first innings. Karun Nair was brought in the playing XI as a replacement for injured Ajinkya Rahane in this match and was dropped in the next match when Rahane returned. India won the Chennai Test by an innings and 75 runs.

2.Bob Simpson – 311 vs England, 1964

Former Australian opener Bob Simpson hit a wonderful triple century against England in the Old Trafford Test, 1964. This was his first-ever ton in the longest format of the game. Simpson scored 311 runs off 740 balls and hit 23 fours and 1 six in his innings. Australia put up a total of 656/8 in the first innings of this match. In response, England too batted very well and scored 611 runs. This match eventually ended in a draw.

1. Garry Sobers – 365* vs Pakistan, 1958

Former West Indies player Garry Sobers played a brilliant knock of 365 runs when he hit the first hundred of his career. He played this innings against Pakistan in the Kingston Test, 1958. West Indies posted a mammoth total of 790/3 in the first innings in response to Pakistan’s score of 328. Pakistan were asked to follow on, and they were all out for 288 runs thus losing the match by an innings and 174 runs.
