First-class cricketers my biggest priority: BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly
In a bid to revamp India’s domestic cricket scenario, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has said that the board will soon be introducing a ‘contract system’ for its first-class cricketers.
In an interview with PTI, Ganguly elaborated on his plans for the betterment of India’s domestic cricketers, an area he has been vocal about even before his appointment.
“We will bring in a contract system for first-class cricketers and we (office-bearers) will ask the new finance committee to prepare a contract system,” Ganguly said.
Ganguly, who was recently appointed BCCI President, will be in charge of Indian cricket’s apex body for 10 months. He will then serve a mandatory three-year cooling-off period for having completed six years with a state association and/or at the BCCI.
“My biggest priority will be to look after first-class cricketers. I have been requesting that to the CoA for three years. That’s the first thing I will do, look after the financial health of our first-class cricketers,” he added.

Ganguly to meet Dravid
Speaking of reforms, the newly-elected BCCI President will also be meeting former teammate and NCA head Rahul Dravid on October 30. The two ex-captains are set to discuss the roadmap of Indian cricket in their respective capacities. In his new role as the honcho, Ganguly has already taken a step in the right direction by organising the first-ever day-night Test in India. Virat Kohli and co. will be taking on Bangladesh in the second Test at Eden Gardens on November 22.
