Fawad Alam is inspiration for me and a lot of batsmen: Kraigg Brathwaite
West Indies Test captain Kraigg Brathwaite has lavished praise on Pakistan batter Fawad Alam for his heroic performance in the second Test against his team. The southpaw scored an unbeaten 124 on Kingston and helped the team to level the two-match series 1-1. In the process, the southpaw scored his fifth ton in just 22 Test innings and became the fastest batter from Asia to get to the landmark.
Since coming back into the Pakistan team, Alam has bailed the team out of problems on several occasions and has helped Pakistan win some close games as well. Looking at the 34-year-old, one cannot say that he is back with the team after 10 long years. During his last innings too, Alam came when his side were three wickets down with fewer runs on the scoreboard. And yet again, he stood like a rock when wickets were tumbling at the other end.
While talking to PCB Podcast, Braithwaite said that the Pakistani batter is an inspiration to him as well as, the other batters. “He is truly amazing and obviously he has his own style,” Brathwaite said as quoted by ARY Sports.
“He is a very disciplined player as we can see in his innings where he batted a lot of balls. He is an example for me and a lot of batsmen to see. I think he is world-class,” he added.
Fawad Alam and Shaheen Shah Afridi help Pakistan level the series
Pakistan had come agonizingly close to winning the first Test but lost due to Kemar Roach’s brilliance in the end. But the team bounced back from that bitter defeat and produced a near-perfect performance, and levelled the series 1-1. If Alam led the batting charts, then Shaheen Shah Afridi was not far behind, as he picked up eight wickets in the match and was named man of the match, as well as player of the series.
It was the left-arm pacer’s scintillating bowling that helped bundle West Indies out for just 150. Owing to the win in the second Test, Pakistan are now second-placed in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table. West Indies are also second in the points table owing to their win in the first Test.
