Fastest to 200 ODI wickets
It is in ODI cricket the art of power-hitting and death-over bowling first came to light. It started out as a 60-over format played with a red ball, and it is a 50-over format played with a white ball today. Each bowler aims to deliver for his team by taking wickets, but if those come in quicker time, it bodes even better for the player as well as his team. M Here are three players who have taken the fewest number of matches to pick up 200 wickets in ODIs:
3) 112 – Brett Lee
A pace bowling sensation from Australia, Brett Lee was one of the finest fast bowlers of his era. He had a searing pace and an ability to take wickets, and the batters simply hated the sight of Lee steaming into the crease with the ball. He played ODIs between 2000 and 2012, and took 380 wickets in 221 games with 14 four-wicket hauls and nine five-wicket hauls. He was also part of the Australian team that won the World Cup in 2003 in South Africa.
2) 104 – Saqlain Mushtaq
Saqlain Mushtaq is one of the best off-spinners of all time, and a pioneer of a number of variations of a spinner, most notably the ‘doosra’. He had the guile and skill of a top-class white-ball spinner, which made him a reliable prolific wicket-taker and a match-winner for the team. He made his ODI debut in September 1995 and went on to play 169 games for Pakistan. He picked 288 wickets 11 four-wicket hauls and six five-wicket hauls and has the best match figures of five for 20.
1) 102 – Mitchell Starc
Mitchell Starc is yet another serial match-winning fast bowler that Australia has produced. He made his ODI debut in October 2010 and has played in 102 ODIs ever since. He has been the leader of the pack for a number of years and also was the Player of the Tournament in the 2015 World Cup, which the Aussies won. He went past Saqlain Mushtaq on this list on September 3, picking his 200th ODI wicket against Zimbabwe. He also has 11 four-wicket hauls and eight five-wicket hauls with best match figures of six for 28.
