Alec Stewart played cricket for England in what was a tough time for the team. Along with Michael Atherton, Stewart strived hard to take England cricket to greater heights in the 1990s. By nature, he was an attacking batter who finished with an average of 39.54 in a 13-year Test career. The numbers do not tell the complete story though. He was the highest run-getter in the red-ball format in the nineties with 6,407 runs and was considered as one of the best batters of that era.
About the ongoing County match, Surrey scored 252 runs in their first innings. Jamie Smith played impressive innings of 123 to strengthen the team’s position. Will Jacks added another pivotal 60 runs to the team’s account. For Northamptonshire, Tom Taylor registered a five-wicket haul whereas Ben Sanderson picked up four wickets.
When Northamptonshire came in to bat, Reece Topley alongside Rikki Clarke struck to remove the top order batters. Surrey currently is in a dominating position having reduced Northamptonshire to 138-7.
