ENG-W vs IND-W: 2nd T20I Preview – Last chance for India to stay alive in the series

The second T20I of the three-match series between England and India will get underway on July 11 in Hove. The hosts trumped India in the opening encounter, winning the contest by 18 runs (D/L) method, after posting a competitive total of 177/7.

England’s aggressive show with the bat was thanks to Player of the Match Nat Sciver, who smacked a 27-ball 55 before also shining with the ball as she returned 1/16. Danni Wyatt, who got recalled to the national side, struck a 28-ball 31, but it was Amy Jones’ quick-fire 43 alongside Sciver that gave England an edge at the halfway mark.

Chasing under overcast conditions, India lost their dashing opener, Shafali Verma, for a duck, and while Smriti Mandhana got into her groove to an extent, Sciver struck to remove her, followed by Sarah Glenn’s strike to dismiss the Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur for one.

At 54/3, India was comfortably behind the DSL par score. With the rain showing no respite, the match never resumed, with England taking a 1-0 lead. Having already won the ODI series, the hosts would want to clinch the T20Is series in Hove on July 10. Meanwhile, India would be desperate to win to keep the series alive until the final fixture.
