ENG vs SL: Five players to watch out for in three-match ODI Series
The Sri Lankan team is currently on tour to England to play ODI and T20I series. They have already lost the T20I series with the hosts beating them in the first two matches. The ODI series will start from 29th June, with the first match to be played at Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street. Sri Lanka lost its last ODI series against Bangladesh and would like to bounce back now. Let’s discuss the five players to watch out for in the England vs Sri Lanka ODI series.
Joe Root
England Test captain Joe Root will be returning to the ODI team with this series. He did not feature in the three-match ODI series against India. He has been getting starts in the 50-over format but has not been able to convert them to big scores. He last hit a fifty in the format during the 50-over World Cup in 2019. This fifty came against Sri Lanka only. Root was the top run-getter for England in the World Cup with 2 centuries and 3 fifties coming from his bat.
Kusal Perera
The Sri Lankan team will have a lot of hopes from its newly appointed captain. Kusal Perera hit a century against Bangladesh in the last series. He would like to continue the same form against England as well.
Wanindu Hasaranga
Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has been making headlines in recent times. He has shown his ability both with bat and ball and is going to be a crucial player for his side. He can pose a big threat against the England batsmen in the series.
Jonny Bairstow
England opener Jonny Bairstow was the top-performing batsman against India in the last ODI series. He also won the player of the series award for his batting show. It will be interesting to see if he can carry that form against Sri Lanka.
Sam Curran
England all-rounder Sam Curran has shown his talent in recent times. He has been valuable with the bat and ball for his team. He nearly won the match for England from a difficult situation in the ODI against India. He looked good in the T20I series as well.
