ENG vs PAK: Jonathan Trott named England batting consultant

Trott

Former England batsman Jonathan Trott has been appointed as England’s batting consultant for the upcoming series against Pakistan. The first of the 3-Test series begins on Wednesday (August 5) at Old Trafford.

Trott is set to succeed Graham Thorpe, who has been doubling up as the assistant coach and batting coach for a year. He will now be going back to his former position. However, Thorpe will relinquish his post after the first Test, with Paul Collingwood taking for the remaining two matches.

39-year-old Trott was a vital cog in England’s batting line-up and was part of the team that became the No.1 Test side in 2011. A technically sound batsman, he went on to make the coveted No.3 spot his own in the years following his Test debut at The Oval in 2009, where he scored his maiden Test hundred. In 52 Tests, Trott scored 3835 runs at a commendable average of 44.08 with 9 centuries and 19 fifties. His numbers in the domestic circuit were even more astonishing, with 18,662 runs in 281 first-class matches and 10,056 runs in 274 List A games.

Joining Trott in the coaching staff will be his ex-Warwickshire teammates Jeetan Patel and Graeme Welch. Welch has been named pace bowling consultant whereas Patel will be the spin consultant for the second and third Tests against Pakistan. Bruce French and Carl Hopkinson also join head coach Chris Silverwood as the wicketkeeping and fielding coach respectively.
