As the players were about to enter the pavilion after the end of Day 3, Root stopped near a fan who once tapped on Root’s shoulder before saying something to him. Joe Root continued his good form with the bat
The former England skipper is playing a marathon innings yet again as at the end of Day 3, Root had scored 163 runs off 200 balls, putting his team in a good position. The right-handed batter stroked a century in the previous Test match as well and won the match for his country.
Meanwhile, England is still 80 runs behind New Zealand’s first innings score with five wickets left in their kitty. At present, the heroes of the first match Root and Ben Foakes are still at the crease with bowlers to come in next. Apart from Root, Ollie Pope (145), skipper Ben Stokes, and Alex Lees also played some vital knocks for the home team. In bowling, the Kiwi pacer Trent Boult has scalped three wickets with Matt Henry and Michael Bracewell getting one wicket each.
Earlier, New Zealand, after being asked to bat first, scored 553/10 in their first innings. Some hefty contributions from Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell ensured that the visitors cross the 500-run mark in their first innings. With three days completed, it looks like the match is heading towards a draw, but both teams will want to give their best on Day 4 to tilt the match in their favor.
