ENG vs IND: 5th Test – Day 2 Talking Points

The visitors India dominated Day 2 of the rescheduled Test match being played between the home team England and India. Indian batters Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami resumed the proceedings for the visitors as the star all-rounder Jadeja completed his excellent century. However, the day belonged to India skipper Jasprit Bumrah who contributed with both bat and ball. On that note, let us look at the talking points of Day 2 of the rescheduled Test match between England and India.

3. Jasprit Bumrah’s all-round show

Skipper Jasprit Bumrah was excellent with both bat and ball against the Three Lions. It all started when Bumrah arrived at the crease as the visitors were looking to cross the 400-run mark. The tailender took his chances against the veteran pacer Stuart Broad and smashed him for six boundaries in an over. Broad went on to bowl the most expensive over in Test cricket history after spending 35 runs in that over.

The Indian skipper did not perform only with the bat as the premier pacer demolished the English top-order scalping the wickets of Alex Lees, Zak Crawley, and in-form batter Ollie Pope. He also created some problems for the former skipper Joe Root but could not manage to grab his wicket.

2. Ravindra Jadeja silencing his critics

Giving a befitting reply to his critics, the star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja completed an excellent century on Day 2 of the Test match and put his team in a commanding position. The left-handed batter played a vital inning of 104 runs and smashed 13 fours before being scalped by the veteran pacer James Anderson.

1. England openers failing yet again

The opening pair of Alex Lees and Zak Crawley failed yet again to give a decent start to their team. To note, the Three Lions lost their first wicket on the score of 16 runs with Lees being cleaned by Bumrah. Lees’s partner, Crawley followed him soon as the home team lost their second opener on the score of 27. The Three Lions may have won their previous series against New Zealand, but their openers did not contribute much to the effort. Both Crawley and Lees were looking clueless against the Indian bowling line-up and the England team management may have to look for different alternatives in the upcoming Test matches.
