Team England made a resounding comeback during the rescheduled Test match and eventually thrashed the Indian team by seven wickets. With that victory, team India was denied a historic series victory on English soil despite having a lead in the series when they traveled in 2021.

 On that note, let us take a look at the five best performers of the England vs India Test series.

5. Jonny Bairstow

The Player of the match in the last encounter, Jonny Bairstow was simply amazing against the Indian bowling line-up. The right-handed batter scored an excellent hundred in the first innings as he took his team to a respectable total. During the second innings, the Three Lions were in a bit of trouble, but he stitched an excellent partnership with former skipper Joe Root and denied the visitors a famous victory. Earlier in the series, Bairstow stroked an excellent knock of 57 during the Lord’s Test and helped his side to post an excellent. However, England went on to lose that match. 

4. Rishabh Pant

India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant gave a fitting reply to his critics as he smashed an excellent hundred during the first innings of the match. To note, that innings became more valuable as India had not even crossed the 100-run mark and lost five wickets. Even in the second innings, Pant stitched a vital partnership with Cheteshwar Pujara as India gave a decent target to the home team.  Overall, he scored 349 runs in nine innings with 146 being his best score.

3. Rohit Sharma

India’s permanent skipper Rohit Sharma was ruled out for the final match of the series but he was excellent during the four Test matches as he helped the Indian team to gain a lead over England in the series. To note, it was Rohit Sharma’s maiden overseas Test century. Rohit ended the series with 368 runs in 8 innings with a century and two fifties.

2. James Anderson

Veteran pacer James Anderson was simply amazing with the red cherry during the rescheduled Test match. The right-arm pacer took another five-wicket haul during the first innings and gave a perfect start to the England team after scalping opener Shubman Gill in the first over of the second innings. He showcased his class throughout the series as well picking up 21 wickets with two five-wicket hauls.

1 Joe Root

Former England skipper Joe Root continued his red hot form as he stroked an unbeaten 142 runs off 173 balls smashing 19 fours and one maximum. He also played a good knock of 31 runs, but he got a peach of a delivery from Mohammed Siraj. Since stepping down from the captaincy post, Root has been in excellent touch. During the last series against India, he also scored an excellent stoked century during the first Test match and gave vital contributions to his team throughout the series. Overall, he plundered 737 runs in nine innings with four tons and one fifty to end as the highest run-getter of the series.
