Dwayne Bravo backs underfire Chris Gayle

Bravo

West Indies have so far exuded great character in the ongoing five-match T20I series against Australia. The hosts have taken a 2-0 lead in the series and are set to battle it out against the opposition in the third T20I on 13th July. However, despite their triumphs, Chris Gayle hasn’t been in good form for them which has brought him under scrutiny. But his teammate Dwayne Bravo has backed Gayle on his performances stating that he is a key player for the team.

More often than not, the presence of a few players on the side seems to pose threat to the opposition. Considering the batting heroics of Gayle in the T20 format, one can’t deny the fact that he has all the flair to change the fortunes of the game any time around. Though Gayle hasn’t contributed much with the willow since his return to the West Indies T20 side in 2021, Bravo feels that his presence in the team in itself is a huge factor for the team.

“We don’t judge him by his performances now, Chris’ presence alone sends a fear factor to the opposition and brings a certain level of calmness to our dressing room. There’s a lot of outside pressure because of the age factor but there’s no pressure in the dressing room. We appreciate what’s done for West Indies cricket, he’s a legend, and this last few months with him let’s enjoy it and push him through this last phase of his career.”

Chris Gayle – The T20 batting maestro

Though Chris Gayle is currently averaging just over 12 from the 9 games in 2021 and hasn’t produced a good performance in the ongoing series so far, it is a known fact that his numbers in T20 are just astounding. He is known for his belligerent and frenetic batting and has dominated the format.

In the T20s, Gayle has scored 13971 runs which include 86 half-centuries and 22 centuries. He is just 29 runs away from reaching the 14,000-run mark. Thus his form quite doesn’t bother the West Indies as once he gets going, he can singlehandedly take the charge of the game.

“He’s trying his best to be conservative, not playing his flamboyance game, but we aren’t worried about his scores,” Bravo thus opened up about the 41-year old.
