Dominic Cork backs Eoin Morgan to come good soon
Former England fast bowler Dominic Cork defended the decision of the management to stick with Eoin Morgan in the line-up despite his terrible form. The left-hander has bagged two consecutive ducks in the ongoing ODI series against the Netherlands and his place has been under the scanner owing to his poor returns in the last two years. The World Cup-winning captain last scored a century in the format in 2020 and his rough patch has continued into the T20 format as well.
Morgan led the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2021 and his leadership qualities helped the franchise reach the finals from a tough position. However, his batting form was never in the right place with just 133 runs in 17 games and subsequently wasn’t retained by the franchise for the next season. He went unsold in the IPL auction this year and his form will definitely go into consideration ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022 this year.
Eoin Morgan just needs a knock that’s all it is: Dominic Cork
Cork mentioned that Morgan’s form remains a concern for England but felt that he has been getting continuous chances on the basis of his phenomenal achievement as a leader and a batter. He highlighted the difficulties of playing in a tight schedule at the moment and felt that it is a matter of just one knock to get his form back. He was keen to see Morgan’s form in the next six to eight months with the T20 World Cup coming up.
“I am sure it is a concern for him and a concern for England but I think he’s got some credit in the bank for what he’s done as captain and what he’s done as a batsman,” Dominic Cork told Sky Sports.
“It is not easy to not be playing a lot of world cricket at the moment, whether it be franchise cricket, and come back in. He just needs a knock that’s all it is. Let’s wait and see where we are in six, eight months’ time,” he added.
