Do you know? The only Indians with more than one T20I century in a calendar year
India have been blessed with some of the most prolific batters over the years who have demolished records for fun. However, two players stand out for the Men in Blue in the shortest format of the game with two centuries in T20Is in a calendar year. Current Indian skipper Rohit Shamra and no 1 T20I batter in the world Suryakumar Yadav are the only two batters with two centuries in the shortest format of the game in a calendar year for India.
Suryakumar Yadav – 2022
Suryakumar Yadav is having his best year on a personal level as the nonchalant stroke-maker is placed at the summit of the T20I rankings for batters. He has been the best batter in the format since making his debut last year and has captivated viewers with his audacious shot-making abilities. The middle-order batting ace took international cricket by storm and is one of the leading run-scorers in T20Is in 2022, with an astonishing strike rate of 187.43. His prolific output with the bat was laden with two glorious centuries. The first one came in a losing effort against England, while the second one came against New Zealand in the second T20I in November. He became only the second Indian cricketer to have two centuries in T20Is in a calendar year, joining his skipper Rohit Sharma in an elite list.
Rohit Sharma – 2018
The second leading run-scorer in the shortest format of the game, Rohit Sharma is arguably one of the greatest white-ball openers of the modern era. The Indian skipper is the only cricketer with four centuries in the format, two of them coming in the year 2018. His first came against England in Bristol when his unbeaten ton helped India chase down a massive total of 198 runs with eight deliveries to spare. One game later, the flamboyant batter was once against at it, slaying the Caribbean bowlers on his way to a glittering century, helping India to a series victory against the West Indies.
