Dinesh Karthik names top three Indian performers across formats in 2022
Indian wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik picked his best performers for India across all three formats for the year 2022. India ended the year 2022 with a 0-2 Test series win over Bangladesh but it can’t be termed a memorable year for the Men in Blue.
The Indian team failed to qualify for the final of the 2022 Asia Cup. Following, they suffered an embarrassing ten-wicket defeat in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022 in November.
They also ended their final white-ball bilateral campaign with a 2-1 defeat in the ODI series against Bangladesh this month. However, there were some individual signs of brilliance this year. Karthik, while speaking to a cricket news website, revealed his best performers from each format for India.
Karthik picked Rishabh Pant as the best performer for India in Test cricket as the wicketkeeper batter scored most runs across the format in 2022. Pant scored 680 runs in 12 Test innings at an average of 61.81 with two hundreds and four fifties.
He was the only Indian batter to score 500-plus runs in Test cricket this year. Though he struggled to make a similar impact in white-ball cricket in 2022.
Karthik chose Shreyas Iyer as India’s best performer in ODI cricket in 2022. Shreyas was excellent with consistent performances in 2022 as he finished with most runs combining all formats for India this year. Iyer’s best outings came in ODI cricket where he scored 724 runs in 15 innings at an average of 55.69. His year included one hundred and six fifties.
As expected, Karthik picked in-form Suryakumar Yadav as India’s best performer in T20I cricket for the year 2022. Suryakumar ended the year with most runs in T20I cricket – 1164 runs in 31 innings at an average of 46.54 and an amazing strike rate of 187.43. He also smashed two hundreds and nine fifties and seemed unstoppable throughout the year.
