Dimuth Karunaratne dedicates Bangladesh Test series win to his country
Sri Lankan skipper Dimuth Karunaratne was a happy man as his side managed to defeat Bangladesh by 10 wickets after five days of hard-fought cricket. Seeing the current situation of his country, the Sri Lankan captain was hoping to bring some joy to his countrymen through this Test series victory.
Sri Lanka has been facing an unprecedented economic crisis as the Sri Lankan currency has plunged to a record low against the US Dollar. Inflation is on the rise and the people of the country have been protesting over this crisis situation against the current political leaders.
As per reports, the new Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is looking for foreign assistance to improve this situation. Sri Lanka failed to pay $78m (£63m) in debt interest payments and has defaulted on a multi-million-pound foreign debt payment, deepening the crisis.

After the win, Sri Lankan captain Karunaratne took to his official Twitter account to dedicate the win to all the Sri Lankans. He wished that this win can bring some joy to their faces during these tough times.
“We would like to thank the Sri Lankans back home, this win is for them, the country is going through troubled times at the moment,” he said in the post-match presentation. Sri Lanka are now in the fourth position in the table with a points percentage of 55.56 after six matches.
Sri Lanka’s next series is scheduled against Australia at home, starting from June 7. Both teams will play three T20 Internationals, five One Day Internationals and two Tests in that order.
