Dilip Vengsarkar wants Ruturaj Gaikwad to be picked for SA ODI series
Ruturaj Gaikwad has just decimated every bowling attack in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The right-handed batter has plundered 435 runs in just 4 innings in the tournament and has scored his runs at a colossal average of 145.00.
Ruturaj has also amassed 3 centuries in the competition as well. And, former Indian cricket legend Dilip Vengsarkar feels that India should pick Gaikwad in their squad for the ODI series against South Africa. Vengsarkar also said that the selectors should pick a man in form and give Gaikwad an opportunity to prove his worth in national colours.
“You must pick a man in form. How many more runs does he need to score to prove himself ? It is high time the selectors pick him straight away and give him a proper opportunity,” said Dilip Vengsarkar according to the Times of India.
Ruturaj Gaikwad must be accommodated in the Indian team: Dilip Vengsarkar
Dilip Vengsarkar also added that Ruturaj Gaikwad is a player who can even come in at No.3 for India. Adding that Gaikwad should be accommodated in the Indian side right now, Vengsarkar concluded by stating that there is no point in picking the right-hander when he will be close to 30 years of age.
“He (Gaikwad) can bat at No 3 also. He must be accommodated in the team. It’s not like Ruturaj 18 or 19. He’s 24 now. There’s no point in picking him when he’ll be 28,” concluded Vengsarkar.
Ruturaj Gaikwad also won the Orange Cap award in the 2021 edition of the IPL. The Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) opening batter amassed 635 runs in the tournament, scored them at a stupendous average of 45.36, and played a key role in the MS Dhoni-led outfit winning their 4th IPL title.
