Dhoni could make commentary debut during day-night Test
Although there is a whirlwind of speculation around his future in international cricket, MS Dhoni could well begin a new innings in his career. The broadcasters of Bangladesh’s tour of India, Star Sports are planning to rope in Dhoni as a commentator for the day-night Test in Kolkata.
Star have forwarded the proposal to the newly-elected BCCI President Sourav Ganguly. They have invited all the former Indian Test captains for the match starting on 22nd November. The captains will be asked to share their favourite moments from India’s long and storied Test history.
The plan was accessed by news agency IANS and read:
“Invite India Test captains for Day 1 & 2 of the Test. All captains at the ground along with (Virat) Kohli and the rest of the team as well as the dignitaries line up for the anthem. Captains appear on commentary as guests through the day to recollect their favourite moments from India’s Test history. Down memory lane segments recorded with individual captains are played on the big screen at the ground in breaks Day 4 onwards.”
If Dhoni does accept the invitation from the broadcasters, it will be debut in the commentary box. Dhoni’s acumen on the field has always been highly praised and it will undoubtedly be interesting to hear his perspective.
Big celebrations planned
The day-night Test will be a historic occasion in Indian cricket. To celebrate it, Star are also planning further ceremonies to commemorate the occasion. Arguably, India’s greatest Test victory against Australia in 2001 at the Eden Gardens will also be re-lived.
The plan further read:
“V.V.S. Laxman, Sourav Ganguly, Harbhajan Singh, Anil Kumble (?) and Rahul Dravid (?) re-live the Test match (2001). Segments aired on the big screen.”
With so many special ceremonies planned, the maiden pink-ball Test in India is soon turning out to be a must-watch occasion.
