Deepak Chahar to take five more weeks for complete recovery
Indian fast bowler Deepak Chahar will reportedly take another five weeks to complete his recovery from a hamstring injury. He missed the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) and the T20I series against South Africa due to injury and will miss the upcoming tour of Ireland for a two-match T20I series.
Chahar and Washington Sundar, both centrally-contracted cricketers, are currently recovering from injuries and are going through rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). It is reported that Sundar has almost recovered from his hand injury and will get some game time in the County cricket, playing for Lancashire.
“Washington is nearing full fitness and he needs a lot of game time, which he will get only in red-ball cricket,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by the Times of India. “He is going to play for Lancashire and this exposure will do him a world of good.”
I will need to play club-level games to check my fitness: Deepak Chahar
Chahar last played for India in a T20I against West Indies in Kolkata in February before he suffered the injury. Speaking about his recovery, he said that he is now able to bowl four to five overs in one go. He feels that he would not be fit for the upcoming T20I series against England, adding that the recovery is a step-by-step process.
“I am bowling four to five over at one go as per my rehab programme right now. My recovery is going pretty well and I think it will take another four to five weeks for me to get match fit,” said Chahar. “It’s a step-by-step process as far as recovery is concerned. I don’t think I will be fit for the England T20s. Once I am match fit, I will need to play some club-level games to check my fitness.”
The Indian pacer also said he would definitely try to be back for the tour of West Indies although he cannot confirm that he would be fit by then. The West Indies tour, starting on July 22, will consist of three ODIs and five T20Is.
