Deepak Chahar emerged as the wrecker-in-chief for Chennai Super Kings as they registered a stunning victory by six wickets against Punjab Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Chahar bowled one of the best spells of his entire cricket career as he ran through the opposition’s batting order to pick as many as five wickets.

Within the first seven overs of the game, Deepak dismissed Chris Gayle, Mayank Agarwal, Deepak Hooda, and Nicholas Pooran to bring Punjab to a paltry score of 26 for five. This was followed by the young Shahrukh Khan showing his class and temperament as he played a sublime knock of 47 runs off 36 balls to propel his team towards a total of 106.

CSK easily chased the target within 15.4 overs to win their first game of IPL 2021. After the match, Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur talked about their performance, the game, and other factors in a video uploaded on the official Twitter handle of IPL. Speaking about the game, Chahar revealed that he received a message on social media where a fan told him to not participate in this game.

“I got a message on social media that bhai you are a very good bowler but don’t play the next game. So, the expectations are very high here and you have to perform in every match. So, it was for that man, if I wouldn’t play this match this performance would have never come”, said Chahar.

Shardul continued, “Support the players as they do a lot of hard work. Keeper showering the love on us and we will continue to do our best.”

Further in the interaction, the right-arm speedster reckoned that it was an important game for the Super Kings and thus it was necessary to have a good start. He also revealed that the MA Chidambaram Stadium is now one of his favorite grounds.

“It was an important spell for me. After losing the first game it was important to have the start like this. It was an important match for us to win. I’m happy that I contributed to the victory. After this performance, I will say that this is one of my favorite grounds. There was help from the wicket in the starting. It was not so in the last match on this ground. But today there was help from the wicket,” the 28-year-old added.
