Deep Dasgupta highlights one factor which would work against Team India in T20 World Cup
Cricket fans will be occupied in the coming months with several important series and tournaments being in the pipeline. The remaining matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will take place in September-October in UAE. Days after the conclusion of the gala tournament, the high-voltage ICC T20 World Cup will get underway. Hence, players taking part in both competitions must focus on their fitness.
While there’s uncertainty over the participation of many foreign players in IPL, the Indian players will surely feature in their country’s tournament. Speaking of the same, former wicketkeeper-batsman Deep Dasgupta explained how the global event right after IPL could work against Virat Kohli’s men. Dasgupta made the comment while talking about the much-awaited India vs Pakistan clash in the T20 World Cup.
For the unversed, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the pools for the flagship event on Friday (July 16). With India and Pakistan being put in Group 2, the arch-rivals are certain to cross swords at least once in the competition. Opining on the game, Dasgupta backed his countrymen to emerge victorious considering both sides’ current strength.
However, he also highlighted that heading to the tournament right after IPL would test Indian players’ fitness.
“Yes the way Pakistan are playing at this point in time, the current form if you look at it and everything put together, you can say India might be slightly ahead. The other important thing is India would be going straight from IPL,” Deep Dasgupta said in an interview with Sportskeeda.
You can’t neglect burnout or fatigue: Deep Dasgupta
“The other thing we can’t really neglect is the whole burnout or fatigue because this team which is in England right now will not get a break. From there, they’ll go to IPL, from IPL to World Cup – they’ll be playing non-stop. So you can’t neglect that factor at all,” he further added.
Meanwhile, India and Pakistan don’t play bilateral series anymore due to political tension between the two countries. Hence, their clashes in multi-nation tournaments make for a mouth-watering contest with the tensions reaching sky high. Notably, India have emerged victorious every time they met Pakistan in a World Cup event. However, it would be interesting to see how their match in the upcoming competition unfolds.
