Debut and 100th Test at the same venue against the same opponents
Playing debut and the 100th match against the same team and at the same venue is a rarest of co-incidence. Reaching the milestone of 100 Test games is a special achievement and two such cricketers namely Angelo Mathews and Carl Hooper appeared in their maiden and the hundredth clash against the same team and at the same ground.
Former West Indian player Carl Hooper made his Test debut against India on December 11, 1987, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In the first innings, Hooper scored 37 off 57 with the help of five fours. He did not bat in the second innings with the match between the two sides getting drawn.
The right-handed batter appeared in his 100th Test against the same opposition and at the same venue, the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on October 09 in the year 2002, and made 23 off 49 in the first innings and managed to score only one run in the second innings, with his team facing a defeat by an innings and 112 runs. Carl played 102 games for his side, scoring 5762 runs at an average of 36.46 with 13 centuries and 27 half-centuries and the highest score of 233.
Sri Lankan batter Angelo Mathews is the second name on this list. He made his Test debut against Pakistan at the Galle International Stadium in Galle on 04th July 2009, and amassed 42 and 27 runs in the first and second innings respectively, with his team also winning the match by 50 runs.
He completed his century of matches when he appeared in the Test match against Pakistan at the same venue recently. He mustered 42 and 35 runs in the first and second innings respectively, with the visitors Pakistan still needing 419 runs to win. In 100 matches and 178 innings, he has scored 6953 runs at an average of 45.14 with 13 tons and 38 fifties and the highest score of 200*.
