David Warner ruled out of Border Gavaskar Trophy due to elbow fracture

After losing the second Test of the series, things have gotten from bad to worse for the visitors as opener David Warner has been ruled out of the remaining two Tests of the series due to an elbow fracture. The 36-year-old will be returning to Sydney to recover. He is expected to return for the three-match ODI series against India.

Warner suffered a hairline fracture in his left elbow after taking a blow from Mohammed Siraj in the second Test. Later, he suffered delayed concussion symptoms, which subsided. It was initially thought that the elbow fracture was minor. But that does not seem to be the case as the 36-year-old will have to head back home.

Team India retained the Border Gavaskar Trophy after defeating Australia in the second Test of the series. The hosts have dominated the Aussies at every turn. The performances of the Indian bowling attack has proved to be too lethal to handle for the visitors.

Travis Head expected to open in remaining tests

After the injury layoff to David Warner, Travis Head will be expected to open the innings for Australia in the remaining Test matches. Head also filled in for Warner in the second Test, whereby, the 29-year-old scored 43 off 46 deliveries and looked in good touch for the visitors.

The loss of Warner would not prove to be a big one for the Aussies, as the 36-year-old was struggling against the Indian bowling attack. He only managed to score one and 10 runs across the two innings in the first Test, and he was dismissed early in the second Test match as well.

There was also debate over whether Travis Head could be the long-term solution for the opening slot. However, he was deemed fit to open the innings in the subcontinent. The Aussies will hope that Head can build on his performance from the second Test and keep performing.
